Information for The Online Work at Home Mum

I’ve finally succumbed..

By Darina • Jul 15th, 2008 • Category: Other Stuff !

to facebook ! actually I joined it quite a while ago but never used it. I didn’t see the need, I didn’t like it, I didn’t have time etc. etc. and for an internet nerd like me that was surprising.

But for a while now I’ve been noticing how many of my WAHM colleagues are not only using it for social reasons but they are seeing great business benefits too and combining it with twitter and blogs and other social network applications they seem to have it covered !

SOoooo I decided I at least give it a try. Dangerous !!! for someone like me. Now I find myself addicted. One thing I find amazing is to see who knows who ! When I look at the friends list for some people, I find myself saying things like “how does she/he know them?” ! For business related contacts it’s different, once you move in certain circles you just don’t realise the connections, but it’s the personal connections of people I actually know ! that are surprising me and reminding me how small this world really is.

I haven’t fully mastered the art of using it totally for business, I’m still doing the social/business combining particularly cos a lot of my “friends” so far are family and actual friends ! but I can now see the benefits.

I have to be careful that I don’t over do it though ! have a look at this entry in the iamawahm newsletter to see what I mean

I’ve even added a profile for the mumcentric podcast which people can join as fans !! So please do it’s kinda lost in there amongst some of the bigger stuff :( (just search for mumcentric and you’ll find it)

So if you are on facebook or have been thinking of joining, come on over and add me as a friend ! I have to say straight up though, I’m not one of these people who want thousands of so called friends just so that it looks good ! Even using it as a business tool, I can’t see myself taking that route just yet - maybe in a little while !! If you add me as a friend or tell someone else about it and I don’t actually know you, or know who you are, just add in a note with the friend request to say who you are, or where you found me !

See you on facebook :)

  1. Hi,
Learning about internet home business success stories is a great thing to do as it provides individuals not only with tips for their own online home businesses but the confidence to pursue their goals and dreams relating to running their own internet home business. This article describes where to find the sources of these success stories.

  2. Well, now you’ve done it- another reason to get lost in cyber space in the evening! I’m going to be divorced soon if I can’t manage to convince my husband that HE is more important to me than the computer! See you on facebook
    Louise!

  3. Darina,

you are single handedly responsible for my many cons. Since discovering you and the world of internet marketing/networking/etc I am congratulated if I haven’t been near the computer for a few days! And this is from my 14 year old son…

A whole new world has opened up for me, with a whole range of contacts and friendships too. This is why I have included you in a list of nominees for the ‘Blog Brilliante Award 2008′. I included you on my list because you really have inspired me. Thank you!

  4. I have used Facebook to promote my blog by Networking it and creating it’s own page. It is a fun way to connect with my readers and also share with them a little more than they get on the blog. It is also a great way to add readers to my blog as their friends see my blog updates posted in their news feed.

    Have fun with Facebook!
