Information for The Online Work at Home Mum

Why I love working from home !

By • Jun 9th, 2008 • Category: For Wannabes

I was reading a great blog post by my pal Kelly McCausey, about Work at Home Mums complaining about the WAH lifestyle. She was making the point that you could visit a forum where you have lots of Mums, just dying to work from home and trying to find different ideas and opportunities, and on the same forum there might be a thread of existing WAHMs complaining about the WAH lifestyle ! for various reasons.

She wants to encourage all work at home Mums to practice an attitude of gratitude for their position as a WAHM. Taking a minute now and then to consider all the reasons you have to be grateful for your work at home lifestyle - then take another minute and share what you are
grateful for with others.

I agree fully with her, we should take the time to remember what is great about working from home, even on those days when it’s driving us demented remember working outside the home does that too!! (probably more often)

So here are a couple of reasons why I love working from home; I love having no commute in the mornings, being able to drop the kids to school, go for quick swim and still be at my desk by 9.30 (my kids start school at 8.20 just in case u think that was too speedy !)
I love not having to feel guilty if I need a day off for whatever reason - or just want a day off for no reason !   I love being the only one who is in charge of my pay rises.. and how much I can earn.  I love being able to work when and where I want (it’s a beautiful day today and I’m in the garden on my laptop); I love being able to be there when the kids come home from school and being able to pick them and up and volunteer for playground duty (ok i don’t always like that bit !!)

Sometimes it is tough and I have to confess there are times when I wished I was going out to work and then coming home ! BUT those times are few and far between and mostly I am very grateful for being able to have this lifestyle.

Kelly is offering a prize to anyone who puts down their reasons for loving working at home on their blog and puts a link back to her post, so here’s what I’ll do, if I’m lucky enough to win the prize, I will put the names of everyone who comments on this post with their reasons
of why they love working at home and I will pass the prize on to whoevers name I pull out of the hat !

So come on - tell the world why you love working from home :)

  2. It’s days like today that I really appreciate being a WAHM! The sun is shining, kids are happily splashing in a paddling pool, and I’m enjoying a coffee break that lasts most of the day. (If the laptop was working I’d have it outside with me, but sometimes technology goes against us!)Who wouldn’t love the flexibility to choose your own hours, working sun-up or sun-down, and enjoy the best of your children while they’re young?! It gets a thumbs up from me!

  3. My older son just went back to playschool after almost two weeks off thanks to the chickenpox, which went through the playschool like wildfire! I’m so grateful to be a WAHM - I didn’t have to inform an employer by phone that I couldn’t come into work and I was still able to get work done while he rested or watched some TV (guilt-free TV when kids are sick!). I also love the fact that I’ve no commute, that I can work the hours that suit me and my family, and build a business that will (hopefully) allow me to be here when my boys come home from primary school….and who knows, maybe even secondary school!

  5. My reasons for appreciating being able to work from home are not having to commute, being able to adjust your schedule to accomodate necessary family requirements, being responsible for my own income and best of all having the freedom of not “asking the boss for time off” to attend to personal business.

  6. Because of my arthritis being a WAHM is of huge benefit. Having just had my 7th replacement, and now recovering. It was only possible for me to take up the offer for this surgery now because of a cancellation. This is the valuable ‘freedom of choice’ available because of being at home and having total control of my lifestyle.

Hey, I appreciate it even more when I see the look on Kevin’s, my husband, face after he eventually escapes from the M50!! You know when I look back to my ‘working life’ (the job) the years of committment and hassle for what? Yes I was paid a good salary, could afford the ‘extras’ etc. etc., however when we decided that I ‘retire’, and be a full time Mom!, my salery stopped … 15 years I invested in that job and at the end nothing.

I fully appreciate being a WAHM, I will gradually resume my home business, continue to enjoy the hours spent with family, friends, being in the garden, animal wellfare and the ‘go for’ for North Dublin Arthritis Ireland. Because of the ‘quality part-time’ devoted to growing our home business we have a residual income every month … even while in hospital!! Being a WAHM provides for a quality of life …. my only regret is all those wasted years devoted to that job! Peace of mind .. and we paid off our outstanding mortgage within 3 years.

Any other ‘wannabe WAHMs’ who would like to share the dream/benefits just get in touch for a chat … ’tis good to talk!

  7. Hi WAHMs … I have been silent for some time now. Why? Well following my latest ‘replacement’ and following ‘nursing home’ in Clontarf (Dublin) a problem arose which required an hurried return to hospital for more surgery … and that’s where I am, and will be for some weeks yet. On the mend now, fully, I hope!

Being a WAHM is fantastic … while ‘out of it’ since late in May, June and probably for all of July and into August, … at the end of May we got our residual cheque, and again at the end of June and will get same, plus, end of July and August and so on … your health is your wealth of course however knowing the security of being a WAHM gives massive peace of mind and a super aid to recovery!

Best to all, Maureen Maguire (MKM 01- 8451587).
